GHCT Cycle – September 12 – 6 cyclists, 30 miles and 10 Churches
On Saturday 12 September 5 of us – Gareth & Theo Moseley, Anthony Siddall and Carolyn & Derek Wright set off from Sandhurst Church on this year’s Gloucestershire Historical Churches Trust (GHCT) Ride ‘n Stride. Our first stop was Down Hatherley Church where Andy Nichol joined us for part of the ride. Over the next few hours, we visited the churches in Staverton, Boddington, Stoke Orchard, Tredington, Tewkesbury (Methodist, Abbey and Trinity), Forthampton, Chaceley and Tirley before cycling(?) up Wainlode hill and through Norton back to Sandhurst.
Why you might ask? GHCT provides £150,000 in grants for churches every year in Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and North Bristol. Its church renovation and maintenance grants help those buildings stay alive as active centres of community life and landmarks of the wonderful architectural heritage of this area. GHCT’s main fund-raising event is its annual Ride ‘n Stride with 50% of any money collected remaining with the local church and 50% going to GHCT.
Over the past few years many of the churches in our benefice have benefited from grants from GHCT.
